Juba Peace Agreement

Last updated: March 18, 2008

The Government of Uganda and rebel Lord's Resistance Army are expected to sign a final peace agreement at the end of March. This agreement would be the final component of a process that has gone on for nearly two years and that has addressed a wide range of issues and grievances.

When the Juba Peace Process began in the summer of 2006, the warring parties agreed upon a framework that would both end active violence and address deeper social and political grievances. As of the end of February, all of the agenda items included in this framework had been agreed upon, with the "implementation schedule" and final agreement the only remaining components.
