78 hours and counting into the "Hold Out", spirits remain high in Oklahoma City
The momentum is building as dozens of activists refuse to leave Senator Tom Coburn's office in Oklahoma City until he allows the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act to pass the Senate.
More than 78 hours into the Oklahoma Hold Out -- an all-out effort to save the bill, which is being single-handedly blocked by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) -- the spirits of activists braving sub-freezing overnight temperatures remain high.
One key reason is that Oklahomans' reputation as being a hospitable bunch are well deserved. Oklahomans from all walks of life have come out to show their support - from hotel managers offering use of pools and showers, to police officers holding up traffic to make donations, to passerby not only writing letters to the Senator but also joining the demonstration.
The local media, who seem quite inclined to shower the brave souls enduring sub-freezing overnight temperatures with all sorts of attention and love, also deserve a shout-out (keep an eye on the press roundup blog post here).
You can shower your love, too, by making a donation to the YES Fund to keep them fed and supplied and to help us work to keep momentum building the Hold Out. Or you can click here to find all the ways to help from wherever you are.
As a side note, even if Senator Coburn is willing to be voted out of office before agreeing to strike a reasonable compromise on this bill, the attention this campaign is generating is being noticed by quite a number of Washington policymakers and staff, a number of whom have contacted the Resolve Uganda office to voice their support.
