Live video and blogging of the action in Oklahoma; Senator Coburn responds on camera
For more than two months now, we've been working to convince Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma to remove his "hold" on the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act and allow the bill to pass. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the final push.
You can watch all the action LIVE from Oklahoma tomorrow, at the www.coburnsayyes.com website.
Resolve Uganda's own Lisa and Kenneth have landed in Oklahoma City. Joined by Ugandans Pepito and Geoffrey - featured in Invisible Children's GO documentary - as well as West Wing actress Melissa Fitzgerald, they will be leading "Oklahoma Says Yes."
The action will start at the Oklahoma State Capitol on at 1:30pm (2:30pm ET), and then move to Senator Coburn's office in downtown Oklahoma City. However, because we believe so strongly in seeing this bill passed to help end Joseph Kony's persistent and senseless violence in central Africa, the action won't end until Senator Coburn lifts his hold. There will be a permanent "hold-out" outside his office until a compromise is reached.
We also have a video of Oklahoman all-star activist Mark Nehrenz questioning Dr. Coburn directly about this historic legislation:
Some clarifications are in order. First, we are negotiating hard with Senator Coburn's staff in Washington, DC, but they have yet to accept compromise language that Senator Coburn has agreed to with other pieces of legislation. Second, we have proposed including language that would require funds authorized in the bill to come from existing State Department funds - as he calls for in the video - but they have not yet accepted it.
That's why this campaign is seeking to get him personally engaged in finding compromise language that will work. We need him to work with us to wade through the technicalities to get this bill passed.
