BREAKING NEWS: Senate bill is hotlined for passage!

With the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act now having impressive Senate support from almost 50 cosponsors, Senator Russ Feingold (the bill's original sponsor) has moved forward by hotlining the bill.

(And for those of us who don't speak "DC"....)

This is exciting news and it essentially means that the Senate version of the bill could pass TONIGHT without having to go to a full vote on the Senate floor. With so many Senate cosponsors (as a result of YOUR advocacy), the bill is considered uncontroversial and will not require a full vote by the Senate. Instead, all Senators will be notified today that the bill has been hotlined and unless any Senator opposes (or "holds") the bill, it will pass by unanimous consent by the end of the day.

We at Resolve Uganda are keeping an eye on things and will update you, so continue to check our website for any news.

In the mean time, if your Senator hasn't cosponsored the bill, give him/her a ring NOW and voice your support for the billĀ  (S. 1067).

Keep up the great work, everyone. Your lobbying efforts are galvanizing the congressional support we need to get this bill passed! If the Senate version passes, attention will then shift to the House of Representatives, where the bill will soon be debated before the Foreign Affairs committee.
