Hometown Shakdown Launches TODAY

We have launched the Hometown Shakedown today, November 18!

IC LiveThe goal is simple: get the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama. To do so, we need to double the number of Members of Congress that are cosponsors of the bill.

Invisible Children released a video today explaining the importance of getting this bill passed. You can also check out their live web feed, which will be going all day and covering about 30 meetings with Members of Congress taking place across the country this afternoon.

Here's what you can do. First thing, pick up the phone and take three minutes to call your Members of Congress and urge them to cosponsor the bill. As in, right now. Here's some simple instructions.

Second thing, click here to sign up to arrange a local meeting with your Member of Congress. It's easy and effective. We'll help you every step of the way.

With all the lobbying/phone calling/awareness raising done so far, we have 29 Senators and 125 Representatives who are cosponsors. We need 50 Sentors and 218 Representatives by the end of the year!

Yesterday, we scored a key victory with the Senate's Foreign Relations committee approving the bill, making it eligible for a vote in the full Senate. We just have to keep this momentum going!
