Video documents "unknown" crisis of LRA violence in South Sudan
This video, produced for the UK's Daily Telegraph by photographer David Blair, highlights the devastating - and often overlooked - impact that the LRA is having on Sudan. The Lord’s Resistance Army is actively ravaging areas of not only eastern DR Congo, but also South Sudan, where communities are struggling to rebuild after that country's two decade civil war.
In South Sudan, the LRA have carried out massive abductions and killings, and caused widespread displacement. They have kidnapped 250 children in the district of Western Equitorial alone, and killed over a hundred people since December. LRA violence has also left tens of thousands homeless: 54,000 southern Sudanese civilians have been internally displaced because of attacks in the region. LRA violence in DRC has also spilled over into southern Sudan, as more than 27,000 Congolese fleeing LRA attacks are now refugees there.
As Blair says, "My hat goes off to people who survive there on a daily basis. Life in this part of the world is hard enough without something terrible like this happening."
