LRA abduct 80 in Congo
Earlier today, we learned that on Tuesday of this week LRA fighters converged on a small town called Bayule in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, attacking the town and abducting at least 80 people. Once again, we have to ask, why are more people not hearing about this?
Last month, the LRA attacked the town of Dakwa and abducted 135 people, with a similar silent response from the rest of the world. The remote location of the areas where Joseph Kony is now directing LRA forces to attack families and abduct civilians is no excuse for the lack of international outcry for a crime on this scale.
That's not today's only news that underscores the need to continue our efforts to raise awareness and advocate for peace.
Reports have also confirmed that the LRA have crossed back into Central African Republic, a country neighboring both Congo and South Sudan. In addition, the United Nations reported today that only half of the 240,000 Congolese citizens forced to flee their homes by LRA attacks have access to lifesaving humanitarian assistance.
