LRA/N. Uganda bill gains momentum in House and Senate

billIn just the past few days, the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act has gained momentum, with four Senators and five Representatives signing on as cosponsors. This week, Senators Brown, Cardin, Lieberman and Burris signed onto the bill, as well as Reps. Lee, Moran, Moore, Davis and McDermott. This is great news for two reasons:

#1: While the introduction of this bill is historic given its potential to help transform this conflict, it's just one of many currently before the House and Senate. Many bills get introduced and sent to committees, but that's also where many of them die. Unless other Senators and Representatives support the bill by cosponsoring it, it may never leave committee to get voted on.

#2: The more Members of Congress who cosponsor the legislation, the more seriously President Obama will take it.  If we want this bill to truly be a step towards permanently ending LRA violence, we've got to make sure that Pres. Obama knows its coming with the expectation that he take bold action to achieve its goals.

We just introduced a new section of our website devoted to this bill, where you can find out more about what it does, who's supporting it, and how you can help get it passed. Check it out here: www.resolveuganda.org/legislation
