U.S. Government issues statement on stalled peace talks
Yesterday the U.S. State Department issued a statement calling on the LRA to demonstrate its commitment to peace by signing the final peace agreement. This agreement has been held up in recent weeks by LRA leader Joseph Kony's continued stall tactics.
The statement also makes note of the U.S. Government's commitment to help implement any agreement that's reached, a welcome sign. Just a year ago, we were still calling for the U.S. to support these negotiations at all, and yesterday's statement is a great sign of the progress we've made.
According to the statement: "The FPA represents an unprecedented opportunity to resolve the longstanding conflict and to enhance stability in the Great Lakes Region. We urge its signing and stand ready to support implementation."
We're all still waiting to see what will happen, but we'll let you know as soon as there's any opportunity for you to do something!
