LRA leader leaves base for Central African Republic

ugandacanThe BBC is reporting today that Joseph Kony, the leader of the LRA, has left his base in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and moved into the nation of the Central African Republic.

This development was reported in the Ugandan newspaper The Monitor over the weekend and adds a degree of uncertainty to the possibility of reaching a final peace deal by the end of the month. It was expected that Kony would attend the signing ceremony in south Sudan, despite the fact that assurances had not been made to guarantee his security (the International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for his arrest, a factor which has long threatened the viability of peace deal).
