IMPORTANT PROGRESS! Administration anounces new diplomat
Just wanted to let you know about some exciting news we just got that is, in no small part, due to all of your hard work:
This past week, we learned that the State Department had appointed Mr. Timothy Shortley to be the "Senior Advisor on Conflict in Africa". The immediate focus and priority of Mr. Shortley's work will be conflict in northern Uganda.
Ever since the current peace negotiations began in July of 2006, activists and organizations all across the country have been working to achieve this type of engagement by the U.S. government. Our combined efforts have produced numerous Congressional resolutions, as well as letters from members of Congress to both President Bush and Condoleezza Rice.
This announcement is the cumulative result of all of that work and a great step forward.
Now, that Mr. Shortley has a new job, it's our job to make sure that his position is used to strengthen not only the negotiations, but our government's commitment to achieving lasting peace.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
You can read the letter that the State Department wrote to Senator Feingold , who has been an ally in this struggle, announcing the appointment of Mr. Shortley.
