What will we be advocating for?

We're in the process of working with key Congressional offices on some critical legislation that would address both causes and symptoms of this crisis in an unprecedented way. Specifically, we're advocating for:

  • The US to lead the international community to develop a strategy to apprehend LRA leader Joseph Kony and put a stop to the horrific attacks his fighters have been committing in the Congo and Sudan;
  • New funds to be allocated for reconstruction and reconciliation efforts in northern Uganda to help displaced communities return home and prevent conflict from once again destroying the fragile peace that has been achieved in this region; and
  • Emergency assistance for the hundreds of thousands of people who have been forced to flee LRA attacks in the Congo and Sudan, more than half of whom are yet to receive any sort of relief from the international community.
We're going to be looking for champions in Congress who will be willing to take up and vote for these important policies. As the event gets closer, we'll be sure to get you more details on this legislation and the specific language of what we're asking for.
