LRA/Uganda bill expected to be on the President's desk in 48 hours

House Vote Calendar

Excitement is brewing at the Resolve Uganda office.  We received word that the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act has been added to the House of Representatives suspension calender and will be voted on in the next 48 hours.

This will be a huge victory for the hundreds of thousands of activists and the Congressional champions who have worked tirelessly for over a year to see the bill's introduction and passage. Given the extraordinary number of House cosponsors on the bill--- largely due to strong and sustained grassroots advocacy across the US---we are confident that it will pass with flying colors.

With the bill already passed by unanimous consent in the Senate, it will go straight the the Presidents desk following it's passage in the House. At that point, President Obama will have 10 days to sign the bill into law. And at that point, you have our permission to bust out the carbonated, celebratory beverage of your choice and toast yourself for a job well done.

All of us at Resolve Uganda are humbled and inspired by the hard work and committed advocacy that has taken place---inside and outside the halls of Congress---to get this bipartisan, landmark legislation where it is now. This tremendous public and Congressional support for the bill gives the Obama Administration a clear mandate to lead efforts to protect children and families from LRA attacks and permanently stop the rebel group’s violence.

There is a lot of work to do to ensure that the President makes use of that mandate to develop a viable strategy that will effectively and responsibly bring an end to LRA violence, protect civilians under threat of attack in the region, and support the recovery of LRA-affected communities.

Without question, we will need your help, so stay connected to Resolve Uganda and keep checking our website for up-to-date information and action steps.
