Jam the phone lines of your representative
It's simple math: for every phone call your elected representatives get from you, they are more likely to cosponsor the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act. That's why we need you to take two minutes of your time to help jam up the phone lines of Congress all day long on Wednesday, November 18th to send our message loud and clear.
Here's the instructions:
- Visit www.wewantobama.com. Scroll down and enter your zip code.
- Scroll down again to find the phone numbers of your Members of Congress that have not yet cosponsored the legislation.
- Call the offices of those Members of Congress, and request to speak with the staff person that handles the war in northern Uganda.
- Whether you end up speaking with a staff person or leaving a message, feel free to use or adapt the simple script below.
- Click here and invite all your friends and family to join you in calling in to help get this bill passed and signed into law by President Obama!
- If you're really motivated, it's also good to call and thank your Members of Congress that have cosponsored the bill.
Phone call sample script:
”Hi. My name is _________ and I’m from _________. I'm calling to ask you to cosponsor the Lord's Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act (Senate bill S1067 and House bill HR 2478). For more than two decades, the Lord's Resistance Army has abducted thousands of children and attacked communities in central Africa, and this Act is aimed at stopping this senseles violence. I hope you will cosponsor it and do everything you can to see it passed. Thank you."
